MS Summer Reading 2024

Tips to Keep Kids Reading

  1. Be a reading model. Kids model what they see, so if you want your child to read, make sure you're reading as well.
  2. Allow for choice. The goal is to instill a love of learning, and letting kids choose what they read goes a long way to help them feel like empowered readers.
  3. Experiment with different formats. Graphic novels and audiobooks can be great ways to get reluctant readers reading, and they're great for avid readers as well since they work different reading muscles!
  4. Make it social. Talk to your child about books - what you're reading and what they're reading. Half the fun of a good story is talking to someone about it!

8th grade books

Rising 8th graders will read a total of THREE books for summer reading. All students will read The Red Kayak by Priscilla Cummings for Literature. Also, students will choose one of these for Social Studies: Nathan Hale's Hazardous Tales-One Dead Spy or The Underground Abductor

Finally, the middle school students will be reading a President's Pick book called The Red Bandanna (Young Readers Adaptation) by Tom Rinaldi.
