The goal of this page is to introduce our audience to some of the history and culture of Nigeria, in preparation for our exploration of Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie's novel, Purple Hibiscus. While this is a cursory overview of different aspects of Nigerian life and history, we hope you find it informative.

About Adichie

Chimamanda Ngozi AdichieChimamanda Ngozi Adichie

(1977- )

She grew up in Nsukka, Nigeria. She studied in Nigeria and the USA (Eastern Connecticut State University, Johns Hopkins, Yale). Purple Hibiscus is her debut novel. She has gone on to write several other novels and collections of short stories.
