Citing Sources - US

2. Title of Source

The Title of Source is the title of the work you are citing. Title of Source will go in quotation marks if it is part of a larger source, like an article in a newspaper or magazine, a chapter in an anthology, or a specific page on a website.

Title of Source will be italicized if you the entire source, like the entirety of a book with one author or a film/documentary.

Subtitles should be included in the Title of Source, and it will always end with a period

15. Title of Source

Title of Source (element 2) - Italicizing v. quotes: If the title is part of a larger source, write it in quotation marks, such as an article from a newspaper, magazine, journal, or encyclopedia, or a work in an anthology. An anthology is a book where each chapter/section has been written by a different author, and you can usually tell an anthology from a regular book because it lists an editor on the title page.

If the entire source is being used, the title is written in italics. You will most likely only use an entire source if it is a book by one author or a film/documentary.
